    Chelsea Pensioner, Crimean War service of 1 year 8 months (TNA Out Pensioners Chelse Hospital WO 22/68). Served in New Zealand with the Wellington Veteran Volunteers for 4.5 years.

    James is remembered together with his wife Mary, who served as a nurse with Florence Nightingale at Crimea, on the grave of his son, James Henry Carson, at Terrace End Cemetery in Palmerston North. AWMM
