    • Son of Agnes Robb (nee Fisher) and Peter MaFadyen.

      Husband of Ellen Bertha Dunn (known as Bertha). They had three children.

      His childhood was in Mandeville.

      Before the war he was employed as a labourer for Waimumu farmer J. Adams.

      Entered Camp 5 October 1939

      Lustre Force, Greece, April 1941; Reported safe in Crete 18 May 1941; Returned safe to Egypt 10 June 1941

      Returned to New Zealand 15 June 1943 aboard the Neiw Amsterdam, arriving in New Zealand 12 July 1943.

    • Ian was born at Dunback, but nearly all of his childhood and early adulthood were spent at Ngapuna, Middlemarch. His parents owned a farm at Mandeville for a short time after he was an adult.
