      14 October 1943 AWMM
'Corporal Bayliss was in action at MITEIRIYA RIDGE, Egypt, on 24 October 1942 when the intensity of the enemy’s fire forced his Regiment to withdraw. In spite of the heavy fire being experienced he collected numerous casualties and remained with them until they could be brought to shelter. Later, at Wadi Matratyn, on 16 December 1942 he took an ambulance forward under unceasing fire from heavy enemy tanks and other arms to collect wounded from our light tanks, although the evacuation of casualties under such conditions would normally have been carried out only by armoured vehicles. Corporal Bayliss at all times displayed particular devotion to the collection and evacuation of wounded and his attention to routine medical duties, even under fire, was exemplary.'.
