  • After having been a prisoner of war for nearly four years. T.R.Q.M.S. Colin A. Baynes has arrived safely in Britain. Advice 1o this effect has been received by his father. Mr. W. Baynes, 25 Herbert road, Gisborne. Prior to the war Colin Baynes was on the staff of the Social Security Department in Wellington and Napier. He left with the First Echelon and served in both North Africa and Greece. Captured in Crete, he managed to escape to the mountains but was recaptured about six months later. Advice was eventually received that he was a prisoner of war in Germany. No word had been received from him for seven months, the only information being that he had been moved to another part of Germany.
