  • My Uncle Jack was already a POW when he suggested to my parents that their imminent baby should be called Tony. I didn't get that for my first name, but that's why I'm David Anthony Provan. Jack was a kind and gentle man who suffered very badly from his time as POW. He devotedly nursed his first wife through a long illness and was happy that he found a second. They visited us in England in 1970, and very much enjoyed their trip, but Jack died a year later.
