  • July 1942 - Reported Missing, believed to be a Prisoner of War - However it seems that Edward, who was serving in Egypt, had the duty to delivering Army Messages by motorbike to the front line and a German plane flew down very low. Seeing this he threw himself off of his bike and went to stand up when it had passed, only to realise the lower part of his leg as a large piece of shrapnel had hit it. He was found about six hours later after base had gotten suspicious as to why he was so late. Unfortunately it was about six weeks until he could be airlifted to a proper hospital, and camp had nothing but basic medical supplies. So, to stave off gangarine, maggots were encouraged to hatch on his wound.

Oct 1942 Edward BRANDON was returned to Wellington NZ.

A Story told by his niece is “when he visited his Family in Hawkes Bay they would put pennies in his artificial leg and watch him put the Artificial Leg on.

    d. 1985 Edward BRANDON died aged 69yrs
He was cremated at the Whenua Tapu Crematorium, Porirua & his ashes were scattered
