  • 18 NZ Battalion "C" Co reverting to Private at own request. Special Duty Company, Another year again rose to Sergeant. Transferred to Special Public Duty Relations when rose to Sergeant again.

    3 years with 1st Auckland Territorials.

    Attended Sacred Heart College, Auckland. Graduated LLB at Auckland University in 1930. Because of the scarcity of work during the Depression he spent some time in Queensland in the 1930's. With war imminent he returned to New Zealand to see his family, intending to return to Australia. War broke out while he was on his way to NZ so he enlisted there. His fiance then came to NZ and they were married on 27 December, 1939 in Auckland. He embarked at Wellington 9 days later. Three of his older brothers had enlisted for WW1, and he was a first day enlistment for WW2. After the war the family lived at Awakino Point, near Dargaville. They had 3 daughters and 2 sons.

    After the war, he purchased a dairy farm at Awakino Point, Dargaville. Became involved with Northern Wairoa Co Op Dairy Co, eventually becoming chairman, and remained so for many years. On 27 June 1968 was elected to NZ Dairy board. On 15 October 1976 he was awarded OBE for his services to the dairy industry. AWMM
