  • I have often seen Bertram name on the Obelisk down at Featherston Military Cemetery, but could never understand the surname, no wonder, how wrong it is! Have contacted Ministry of Culture and Heritage to restored the memorial and have his name correctly listed. it says on my photograph, Bertram PSOCK.. its lead lettering, so could be caused by age... but no, it is as I find today, BOOCK, no S in it... but everything else adds up about him.. its had me puzzled for years then decided to day to have another go to find out the correct name, and was given the Karori Cemetery photograph on line, then, seeing the HEBREW on it, had the answer, I have a copy of the book, A Standard for the People, Jewish in Wellington, and in there, there is a lovely write up on this very family, 4 sons went to War... father was from Poland, mother from Wales married at the Synagogue in Wellington (The Terra
