  • My grandfather was Robert Wilson (who was born in Christchurch but later moved to Timaru). Robert was Romulus's younger brother and I have heard stories from my mum, Sharyn Jackson (Romulus's niece) that he was killed at the Battle of the Somme near the Belgian border. I have often referenced his name for WW1/Anzac projects over the years and was browsing this site for my daughter Ruby who is doing a project during the covid-19 lock-down for her school in Timaru, Craighead Diocesan. My mum has a number of photos and etchings of Romulus that she has loaned to Christs College in Christchurch and she is much more up to speed with this than I am. I am aware there was another brother who also returned from WW1 but then afterwards disappeared and I believe he may have gone to Australia but had no contact with his family. A terrible tragedy that so many future generations of families were

  • My uncle who I was never able to know , my fathers eldest brother, died so young . I have a portrait of Romulus as a baby but have never seen an adult photo .
