My Grandfather wanted to be a pilot but they realised he was colour blind late in the game so he transferred to the Army. He didn't tell us stories until very late in life, family rumour was that there was a 50 year confidentiality clause he was under. So only when I was a teenager did we start hearing a few stories. Mostly humorous quips that they obviously used to make " Hitting the deck" any time an American entered cause they we not very good shots (apparently). He was pretty deaf because they manned the heavy artillery. My mother had memories of Castor Bay after the war, holidaying there while Poppa trained. And her and her brothers plotting to sneak into the tunnels underneath ( never successful)
