  • Husband of Henrietta (Rita) Ambrose Kaye, nee Winstanley. Father of Barry and Pamela.

    A Postman with the Post Office before enlistment.

    Single at enlistment

    Attested in September, entered camp in October.

    Attestation for Army stated he had experience with horses, farm. Application for RNZAF he noted he had worked as a mechanic for 4 years with Rangitikei Motors, Marton. He listed the Mayor of Marton, Mr F. Purnell as a referee.

    On returning to Wellington on furlough to New Zealand on the Nieuw Amsterdam, 12 July 1943, William Kaye decided that he would transfer to the Air Force. He said he was tired of being strafed by German planes, and that he would rather do the strafing.

    He Joined RNZAF Station Delta on 5 November 1943, but was grounded because of health reasons.

    He transferred back to the Army 26 January 1944. Because of his health he was discharged in May 1944.

    he was admitted to coronary care at Wanganui Hospital in 1953.

    His headstone has the following inscription: In loving memory of William Ronald Kaye died 5.2.1973 aged 54. Henrietta Ambrose Kaye died 18.5.2006 aged 87. Cherished parents of Barry and Pamela. AWMM
