    "Enlisted immediately war was declared, joining the 6th Squadron, Wellington Mounted Rifles, and leaving New Zealand with the Main Expeditionary Force in October, 1914. He fell in action on the heights of Chunuk Bair August 9th, 1915, a date that can never be forgotten in this country. He left school at the end of 1910."
