    • ROLL OF HONOR
      Mr and Mrs J C Woodward have received a great many messages of sympathy, from all over the Dominion, concerning the death of their eldest son in action at the Dardanelles. The following telegrams were received announcing the sad loss: "The Governor is commanded by the King to assure you of the sincere sympathy of His Majesty and the Queen in your sorrow. From the Hon. J. Allen, Minister of or Defence:- "Regret to advise you cable, received this day reports that your son, 13/472 Trooper Guy Fosbrook Woodward, was killed in action on Gallipoli Peninsula about 26th May. Please accept my sincerest sympathy in the loss which you and New Zealand have suffered." From the Private Secretary to the Governor: "I am directed to convey to you an expression of their Excellencies sincere sympathy in the sad loss which you have suffered." From the Prime Minister:- "I regret exceedingly that advice has been received that Trooper Guy Fosbrook Woodward has been killed in action at the Dardanelles. Please accept my sincere sympathy with yourself and relatives m your sad bereavement. You will be able to derive some consolation in the fact that he bravely gave his life in the service of his country.     A second message announced that Lance-Corpoxal Guy F. Woodward, eldest son of Mr J. C. Woodward, of Patutahi has been killed in action. Lance-Corporal Woodward was a member of the 4th Waikato Mounteds. He was 24 years of age and Volunteered from Auckland, having been sheep farming in the Waikato prior to enlisting. Mr Woodward's second son is a member of the 5th Reinforcements now at Trentham. Lance Corporal Woodwood was in the Union s.s. Compatiy's local oflice prior to going north and had many friends throughout the district.
