London Gazette, 1 June 1917, p5429, Rec No 672: [France] This officer has on many occassions done most valuable work in the trenches and has shown a fine example to his men under fire by his coolness, and under most trying circumstances by his cheerful example he has kept to his men under perfect control. On 22nd February 1917 during a raid over our trenches he volunteered to remain in the front line after the sap had been cleared of men and thus maintained telephone communication with Battalion Headquaters and although subjected to heavy shellfire kept Battalion Headquaters advised of the conditions at the front. Locality: - Sector east of Armentieres. AWMM
