OBITUARY MISS A. I. MURRAY - WANGANUI, March 15. The death occurred to-day of Miss Ada Isabel Murray, matron of the Belverdale Private Hospital, who had a distinguished record as a nurse on active service during the Great War. She was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Murray, Christchurch, where she was educated. She trained for the nursing profession at the Napier Hospital, and from there went to England, enlisting for service in 1914, going in the first instance to hospitals at Bournemouth and Codford, where she remained 16 months. A month after her arrival at Codford she was promoted sister. Miss Murray's war service took her to Salonika, where she remained two years in charge of 120 beds in a military hospital. She later joined his Majesty's Ambulance Transport, Gloucester Castle, and for 15 months was sister, and for 10 months matron on that ship, leaving it on account of the demobilisation of the British forces then taking place. In 1921 she was appointed to the nursing staff of the Northcote Private Hospital, Palmerston North, as a sister. She transferred from there after 12 months to the Dannevirke Hospital, where she served as a sub-matron and home sister. Later she occupied similar positions at the Cook Hospital, Gisborne, and then was matron at Tauranga. She was appointed to Belverdale, Wanganui, two years ago. While on active service Miss Murray was presented by the King with the Royal Red Cross medal, and she also had a 1914-l5 star and other service medals Public - Lorraine M - Researcher - 30 November 2016 - Press, Volume LXX, Issue 21115, 16 March 1934
