    Husband of Natalie

    Three sons, brothers served with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War II: John Frederick Crang Taplin (62256) who was killed in action at El Alamein, Egypt on 22 July 1942; Edgar Bruce Francis Taplin (31233) who was captured by German Forces following their invasion of Greece in April 1941; and Albert William Patrick Taplin (48643).

    He was the Great grandson of Sergeant Patrick Quinlan who was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1803 and served with The Royal New Zealand Fencible Corps from 1847 to 1852
