"Charlie Passmore was a war hero and an Auckland city councillor who had begun his business career in the early fifties with a coffee bar in Victoria Street called Coffee Time. He moved from there to the liquor business, setting up a wholesale liquor store towards the lower end of Newton Road. In summer, between four and six on a Friday evening, Passmore’s could sell a 1,000 cartons of DDB, something over 8,000 litres. He married a woman with the family name of DEWAR, who just happened to be heiress to a whisky empire. "

Some-time around 1960 a DEWAR relative died over in Scotland and his wife came into her inheritance. Charlie sold up and went off to become Laird of the Manor.

He died at aged 66, in 1983 at Perth, Scotland.

I remember him as a generous man who loved his 3 girls, one who drowned on Lake Rotorua. I was his neighbour in Ridings

I found a copy of a recommendation for a medal won during the second world war. I would like to return this to the rightful owners. and I am prepared to send it to them if this is read after my return to the UK. Regards John. J Marshall
