Lewis Frank Raven
Dad was very keen on his Ham Radio, he loved his radios and built them all from scratch. His call sign was ZL1AYA - he would say Zulu, Lima, One, Alpha, Yesterday, Alpha. He could be found in his shed calling his friends all over the world. This was his passion, along with fishing and mending anything anyone would ask of him. He also built our beach house at Matakatia where the family spent many weekends and school holidays. He also built other beach houses for relatives and friends. He also built our yachts which were a P class and Moth.

I believe Lew (Dad) was born in 1914 not 1916, post war he retuned to his trade as an electrician, a few
years after his marriage to Barbara Constance Hickson, who died February 2016, he joined his father-in-law Ernie Hickson as an agent for the NZ Insurance Company in Auckland, the agency was known as Hickson and Raven, he stayed in business, bringing in two partners, who eventually bought Lew out.
Lew (Dad) suffered from Sugar Diabetes and injected himself with insulin an a daily basis, the diabetes went unchecked for many years until a new local Doctor in Remuera diagnosed him as a diabetic, I remember to this day, as a young child, drink a "McAlpines" jug of water non stop as he had an unquenchable thirst, I later learnt that this was a significant "sign of diabetes".
Shortly after retiring he passed away as result of a significant heart attack.
