  • Jim Dempsey served in WWII (WW2 With 24 Battalion) and is believed to have been captured in Italy and was a POW. (13 December 1941)
    On returning to NZ after the war he married Ellie Thompson.
    They had an adopted daughter.
    He died on 22 December 1982 at the age of 68. At his funeral some fellow servicemen spoke of his bravery during the war, and that they owed their lives to him.
    He is buried in the Soldiers' section at Waikumete Cemetery (ashes buried). His wife's ashes are buried there too. Public - Lianne - Other relative - 16 June 2016 - Family Information; Council records Waikumete Cemetery.
