  • Lieutenant Thomson was the Intelligence Officer for the New Zealand Landing on Mono Island (in the Treasury Group, Solomon Islands). This was the first opposed landing by New Zealand troops since Gallipoli.

Captain Thomson returned later New Zealand and was discharged later because he was part of Freyberg's force, which occupied Trieste as peacekeepers in the dispute over this territory between Italy and Yugoslavia.

After the war he became the Manager for Dalgety & Company, Marlborough and then promoted to be the Canterbury Manager until retirement. He was well known and well thought of in this last position. AWMM
