  • Son of Henry Swallow and Margaret Bain Swallow (nee Davidson), he was one of six children.

    Husband of Rona Brennan, father of Christine and Lynne.

    Cliff was working as a Commercial traveller for Ross & Glendinning before he enlisted in 1940.

    Evacuated from Singapore after their ship was bombed in 1 February 1942. Details of this are contained in his diary, a copy held as MS 98/18 in the Auckland Museum Library.

    He met Rona, his wife on a train travelling from Christchurch to Dunedin on 26 March 1942 and they became engaged just a month later. AWMM
