  • Tangi, a Waikato chief of the Ngatimaniapoto tribe was reported killed in the ‘Journal of events’ dated 1 March 1861, published in The Taranaki Herald 2 March 1861: ‘From a native source we learn that a Waikato chief of the Ngatimaniapoto tribe, Tangi, was killed on Tuesday night last [i.e. 26 February], while filling in the sap.’
