  • Hohua, of Manawapou, Ngatiruanui, mortally wounded in in the skirmish on Major Lloyd’s farm, Waireka was reported in the ‘Journal of events’ of the next day Sunday, February 24 and published in The Taranaki Herald on 2 March 1861. The report came from Tamati Kaweora a 'native from Waireka' and teacher at the Grey Institution.

    The Taranaki Herald also reports that Hohua died and was buried on Tuesday 26 February (Taranaki Herald 2 March 1861).
