  • We are from Room 11 at Jean Batten School in Mangere. We have a cross outside our classroom with PTE Shaw's name on it. We have looked up where he came from and were he died and is now buried. He was really young and was brave to leave New Zealand and go so far to fight.
    Public - Room 11 Jean Batten School - Researcher - 24 April 2015
  • My name is Maddie and I am 7 years old. I go to Arahoe School in Auckland. At school I have been learning about ANZAC Day and World War 1 & 2. For homework I was given the name of PTE W J Shaw and to find out about him. William Shaw was from Oratia and died in World War 1 in 1918. He was only 22 years old. Me, my brother Harry and my dad have come to the Auckland museum to see his name on the wall and leave a poppy I made to remember him and thank him for being so brave going to War.
