    Second Lieutenant John Desborough Bowden, New Zealand Infantry, was the only son of the late Rev. C. S. Bowden, vicar of Riccarton, Christchurch, New Zealand, and the only grandson of the late Major H.G. Bowden, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment. He was educated at Christ's College, New Zealand, and was Lieutenant in the school cadet corps. Lieutenant Bowden was known as a very good all-round athlete. He obtained a commission in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in July last year, and arrived at the front about a month ago. He was badly wounded in the chest about October 4th, and died on October 10th.Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F.
