  • Thomas Sheppard was my great-uncle. My late mother, Merle Eccles, nee Sheppard, was the older daughter of George Sheppard, his brother and one of three brothers who went to WWI. He died two years before she was born, but Mum sometimes talked wistfully about the uncle she never knew.
