    He enlisted in WW2 and went overseas with the Maori Battalion. He was taken prisoner and spent nearly 3 years in a German POW camp. Since returning to New Zealand he suffered considerably, being an inmate of the hospital on several occasions. He was accorded a Military Funeral.
