This image of my great uncle John was taken from a group photo of RAF pilots. John was third from the left in the back row. Access to this was via my grandmother Nance's memoirs (she was his younger sister).

  • His daughter writes" my father went on to instruct on 1663 HCU RAF for 18 months before joining 608 Sqn RAF (Mosquito) to fly a further 27 sorties. That Squadron was based at Downham Market, a small town in Norfolk. I have been told that this was one of the elite Pathfinder squadrons. My father flew on the last mission over Germany to Kiel as one of 16 planes on 2nd May 1945. This was only a few days before peace was declared on 8th May 1945." AWMM
