  • Son of Henrietta Laura Marchant and Henry Edward Marchant.

    The family moved to Sydney in about 1906 - three of Eric's siblings were born there.

    Eric went to Te Aro School in 1905.

    Eric's paternal Grandparents: Nicholas Marchant was a civil engineer in Wellington and Margaret McGowan (nee Blundell). Margaret was the 2nd daughter of Henry Blundell, the founder of the Evening Post who came to New Zealand from Ireland in about 1861. Margaret's brother John was the grandfather of Sir Denis Blundell - first NZ born Governor General 1972-77. AWMM
