  • Enlisted in the Air Force in December 1940 as an Air Gunner under training in Levin with the Gilder Training School. Embarked for Canada in 30 January 1941 and attached to the Royal Canadian Air Force, 16th February 1941. Became a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Sergeant in 4th August 1941. Attached to the Royal Air Force and embarked for the UK on the 20th August 1941. Re-enlisted on 16th April 1953, attached to Wigram 21st April to 3rd May 1954, Hobsonville 8th Jun 1955, Short Service Commission and Whenuapai Trainee Strength for officers course 12th October 1955, Hobsonville 8th December 1955, Whenuapai as Wing Signals Leader Janurary 1956, to Singapore and 41 Squadron (Bristol Freighter) November 1956. Killed in a Bristol Freighter crash.

    Son of Mr & Mrs Frank Nelson, husband of Rene Olwyn Nelson (nee Murray) and father of 1 son and 2 daughters. AWMM
