  • Named as P. Brown on the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Hall of Memories. Korea, Malaya-Borneo and listed as Teriwhero Percy Iwihora by Archives New Zealand. Pugsley (2003) incorrectly spells the surname as Iwihera.

    Formerly buried at Taiping (Kamunting Road) Christian Cemetery, Perak, Malaysia. Returned to New Zealand as part of the Te Auraki Repatriation Project.

    The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) began repatriating the remains of personnel buried in Malaysia during 2018.

    This is part of project Te Auraki (The Return), under which the NZDF is bringing home personnel and dependants buried overseas after 1 January, 1955, following a change in Government policy. AWMM

  • Tena koe Uncle Percy, I am the daughter of Thomas and Ngahuteuira. I prefer to write as if I am speaking to you as it is personal. Although I was born in 1956 I have no idea if we had met as I was adopted. It seems so were many of you, my aunties and uncles as our grandmother Mary Brown Iwihora, your mother passed away at a young age. However, I did grow up knowing a few of my aunties and uncles and of course our father, mother and koro Pita Pataua Iwihora. Hokinga Mai to Aotearoa on August 2018, to those of us who greeted and welcomed you home on our marae, kainga, urupa, whanau, hapu, iwi; we are all in your debt for how you and uncle Bill William Iwihora served and paid the ultimate price for our safety and security into the future. You came home 60 years to the day you died. It was our privilege and duty to embrace you in a way worthy of you and the other fallen soldiers who were bro

  • Uncle Percy though we never met kanohi ki te kanohi, I thank you for your contribution as a soldier. I recall my Father your second to youngest brother Kopa talking to us about four of his brother's going off to War 2 returned home to Aotearoa / New Zealand and 2 were lost to the war effort. I am honored and privileged to call you my Uncle and I know my Dad was proud of all his brother's so I say to you Uncle naumai haere mai to your kainga your whenua your Whaanau, Hapuu, Marae Hoki -
