Christopher Bowen was the son of Edward Rhaimes Courtenay Bowen and Lucy Jane Bowen, of 23 Cameron Rd., Napier, New Zealand, and late E. R. C. Bowen.

The Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F' 14.2.1917, p.284 published a note saying 'that communication had recently been received from Trooper Bowen from Angora, Turkey.'

A letter published in the Chronicles of N.Z.E.F. 3.10.1917, p.82. 'Angora, Turkey. The High Commissioner for New Zealand. Dear Sir, - I have received your letter concerning Trooper Bowen's death, and regret to say can give little information which would be likely to bring consolation to his bereaved mother.

I met Trooper Bowen at Angora last November, when he came from hospital and joined our camp. When he had been with us about two weeks he was again admitted to hospital and discharged again a little time before Christmas. He became ill again in January and went to hospital for the last time , and about the end of that month I heard of his death. From what I gather from an Englishman who saw him die, the cause of death was heart failure, although the only complaints I had known him to suffer from were dysentery and general weakness. According to custom he would be buried in the Christian cemetery of Angora, but no Englishman having seen the internment, it would be impossible to find his grave.
