  • Obituary
    Christchurch born Kate Benjamin trained as a nurse at Christchurch Hospital from 1901-1903. The School of Nursing at Christchurch Hospital had been established in 1891. Kate became a sister at Christchurch Hospital, and in 1911 was appointed Matron of Cashmere Sanatorium. From 1915-1919 she served as a nurse overseas in the Great War, then returned to the Sanatorium until 1924. She then became Matron of Cook Hospital, Gisborne, where she remained until her retirement in 1933. She returned to Christchurch where she died in 1938, at St. George's Hospital.
