  • For Dianne: I live in Tapawera, Tasman. In preparation for an event we are planning for 11/11/2018 we have an Army Hut on the village green that a team of us are preparing profiles for display of all the men and women from this area who served in WWI. Robert Christopher Brook BOWEN - is one that I have the privilege of recording. Prior to going to war, he was a sheep farmer here at a place called Kaka and that is why he is on our list. We want to include biographical notes - any stories about Robert and his family - what they did. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

    Report
  • You are my Great Uncle Frederick, my mother's uncle. I never knew you or even of you until recently. Your brother Charles, my grandfather, died when I was a child and I think our family are not great talkers. Maybe it was too painful. On the 100th anniversary of the ANZACs it is with such sadness I think of your death and that of so many of our young men. The sadness you mother must have born, losing two sons in France and her daughter's fiancée. I cannot imagine sending my sons overseas to war let alone losing them there. I know of no medals - maybe she didn't want them - just wanted her boys back. I may never see your grave but may you rest in peace. You are remembered.
