  • 1118 Private James Quedley, 2nd Battalion, 14th Foot Regiment served in the Crimean War and in New Zealand.
    He arrived in New Zealand on 29.11.1860 aboard the Robert Lowe, from Queenstown, Cork, in Ireland. In New Zealand he saw action in the Waikato Campaign (Rangiriri 1863) and possibly in Chute's March during the Wanganui Campaign (1865-66).

    In January 1868 James Quedley transferred from the 14th Regiment to the 2nd Battalion, 18th Royal Irish Regiment so that he could take his discharge in New Zealand in April that year.

    At the time of his discharge James Quedley had served 21 years and 302 days. He was awarded five Good Conduct badges and received the British Crimea (2 bars including Alma), and Turkish Crimea medals and the NZ Medal, and later the King's Empire Veteran badge. AWMM
