    Military Medal (MM) AWMM
    22 July 1943 AWMM
'On the night of 19-20 April 1943, during the attack on TAKROUNA, Tunisia, Private Barton was a stretcher-bearer in his Company, which was subjected to extremely heavy shell and mortar fire and suffered many casualties. His complete disregard for personal safety enabled many wounded to be dressed and evacuated. He worked tirelessly until first light and was one of the last to leave the Company area when it had to be vacated. Private Barton acted as a stretcher bearer with his company from July 1942 and was on many occasions involved in direct actions against the enemy. At no time did he hesitate to go out in the face of heavy fire and attend to the wounded and he consistently displayed courage and disregard for personal safety.'. (Source: The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Barton, Harold Reid. (Ref. WO 373/25/474). Military Medal. AWMM
