'This officer was mainly responsible for the capture of a large enemy barge and the annihilation of its crew of 14 at Tambama Bay during the initial stages of the 37th Battalion's operations. While one portion of the party boarded the barge he with the remainder of his party stayed ashore and surrounded the enemy. Part of the enemy then attempted to return to the barge by a small boat, but were met by the fire of those on board and were killed. Lieutenant Bartos then called on the remainder to surrender, but was met by heavy fire. With complete disregard for his own safety he led his party straight at the enemy and annihilated them. The leadership of Lieutenant Bartos on all occasions while in contact with the enemy was outstanding and deserves the highest commendation.'. (Source: The National Archives. • Hey Dad, Thank you so much for everything you did during the war and for us as children. You were so patient and kind and caring I can hardily imagine you with a gun in your hand although I have a photo on my wall so I know it all occurred. I know the love and caring you showed us as a family would have been the same you would have shown your Battalion. I wish I had understood more when I was younger. I am writing to let you know I understand now Dad. We will never forget and always appreciate. Thank you Dad. xoxo
