Royal Sailors Rest (a.k.a. "Aggie Weston's") 172 -174 Commercial Road, Portsmouth was opened in 1878. That massive building was destroyed on the night of 10/11 January 1941. The Rests were alcohol-free facilities, providing a safe refuge & genuine alternative to the other less wholesome entertainment & accommodation facilities which were available outside a Dockyard.
