      For gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations on Somme near Flers Village from 19 to 25 September 1916. On the latter date he died of wounds. Under heavy fire he at all times proved a tower of strength to his men, inspiring them by his courage and coolness. AWMM

  • William Bowring was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Percy Bowring, of Auckland.

    Capt. William. A. Bowring, killed in action, was one of the younger captains in the New Zealand Army. He was the eldest son of Mr A.F. Bowring of Auckland. (Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F. Dec 27 1916 pg 209.)
