      Mentioned in Despatches - London Gazette 28 January 1916, p1210, WA 22/5/10: "21/28 August 1915 - Kaiajik Aghala. Came particularly under notice for distinguished service." | Mentioned in Despatches - London Gazette 4 January 1917, p261, Rec No 342: "Conspicuous courage and devotion to duty during the advance of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd N.Z. Rifle Brigade to the Blue Line objective near Flers. He materially assisted in helping forward the advance by moving to and fro along the 400 yards of the Battalion front, advising and encouraging his men. He was killed just as the Brown Line objective was reached. This officer had performed conspicuous good work since the arrival of his Unit in France last April. His loss is a serious one to his Unit." AWMM

    • Brother of Gunner James Kay Strang : NZEF Service # 30492, of the New Zealand Field Artillery, 21st Reinforcements, NZEF. Gunner Strang survived war service and he returned to New Zealand. He was discharged from the NZEF on 24 August 1919. James Strang died at Masterton, Wairarapa - in 1951.
