    • James Struthers was the son of James and Agnes Struthers, of 129 Holly Rd., Christchurch, New Zealand; late of Larkhall, Scotland. AWMM
    • James Barr Struthers was born on 3 December, 1884, at 9 Raploch Street, Larkhall.
      His parents were James Barr Struthers, a tailor, and Agnes Brown, a dressmaker, who were married at Abbeygreen, Lesmahagow, on 11 August, 1881.
      His paternal grandparents were Gavin Struthers, a master tailor, and Elizabeth Barr.
      His maternal grandparents were Thomas Brown, a master shoemaker, and Margaret White.

      In the 1891 Census on 5 April, James and his family were living at 11 Raploch Street, Larkhall, as follows:
