      Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916.

      Marched out from Sling Camp, 5 September 1916, and proceeded overseas to France; marched in NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 6 September 1916.

      Marched out to Division, 24 September 1916; joined Maori Pioneer Bn, in the field, 27 September 1916.

      Attached NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 20 November 1916.

      Admitted to No 51 General Hospital, Etaples, 4 December 1916.

      Died, No 51 General Hospital, Etaples, 7 December 1916 (purpura haemorrhage).

    • My father Ruapotakataka Tawhai was also the son of Hone Takarei Mohi Tawhai of Taheke and Whakaronghau Rewiri. Rua also went to war the same time as his brother Hohepa Taupaki Tawhai. with the Maori Pioneer Contingent of Te Arawa, because that was where he was brought up. Ruapotakaka Tawhai m Hera Rogers (1st marriage) the Pikihuia Wetiri (2nd marriage) to both marriages there are 14 sibilings of which only 3 are alive today. Unfortunately Taupaki Hohepa had no issue.
