  • Joseph Thomas was the son of Joseph and Harriet Ann Thomas, of Bunnythorpe, New Zealand; husband of Edith Thomas, of Ngamatapouri, Upper Waitotara.

    Embarked Wellington, 22 November 1917; disembarked Liverpool, England, 7 January 1918, and marched in to Sling Camp.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1918; attached to No 1 NZ Entrenching Bn, Etaples, 24 March 1918.
    Joined 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 29 June 1918.
    Killed in action, 26 July 1918.
