  • Frederick Tilyard was the son of Charles and Rose Tilyard, of Main Street, Greytown, Wellington, New Zealand.

He attested twice (1915 and 1916) as Frederick Garfield Jackson born in Tasmania, Australia and Masterton. His father declared the correct identity twice in the years 1917 and 1918

He fell ill on the 1915 voyage from New Zealand with malaria and was hospitalised in Colombo, Ceylon and returned to Australia then to Wellington, New Zealand June 1915 and discharged as medically unfit.

He re-enlisted, attesting born in Masterton; having served in Mexico under General Madero (?)

Served as Jackson and falsified details of next of kin at attestation. Listed at Archives New Zealand as TILYARD, Frederick Garfield - [a.k.a. JACKSON, Frederick Garfield] - WW1 23309 - Army AWMM
