  • Great Uncle Jim, my Mother's brother, was just so young, with all his life before him until he joined the Otago Regiment and eventually landed in France . He died on the 3rd day during the Battle of the Somme, and is buried in the cemetery at Longueval. It is wonderful to see how the people look after all the graves, with a beautiful rose growing on Uncle Jim's. May he rest in peace.
