    • From the spring of 1915, the hospitals and convalescent depots established on the islands of Malta and Gozo dealt with over 135,000 sick and wounded, chiefly from the campaigns in Gallipoli and Salonika, although increased submarine activity in the Mediterranean meant that fewer hospital ships were sent to the island from May 1917. AWMM
    • Two of Freds three brothers all so died in World War 1.

      Both were serving with the British Army.
      They were;
      Private Walter Bridle 203432, 1st/4th Bn., Duke of Wellington's (West Riding
      Regiment) who died on 09 October 1917 Age 20.

      Private Sidney Alfred Bridle DM2/180212, Army Service Corps who died on 21
      November 1918 Age 28 Son of Mr. W. and Mrs. E. Bridle, of Croydon; husband of
      Daisy F. Bridle, of 35 Lambeth Rd., West Croydon.
