  • Son of Thomas and Ruth Bridson, of 90, Great North Rd., Auckland.

An M.A. holder of the New Zealand University, took a post-graduate degree from Cambridge University. Wounded at Gallipoli, went to Egypt to recuperate; returned to his unit at the earliest possible time. Received his second wound during August attack at Gallipoli; again rejoined as soon as possible. When the NZ Machine Gun Corps was formed, he was attached to the HQ and became Major Rose's right-hand man. Together they carried out some daring reconnoitering expeditions near Armentieres. Bridson received his third wound near the Somme. He would have none of the half-way houses between convalescence and active service. He chafed under the progressive arrangements in force at Codford Depot, and actually went off to the Machine Gum Depot at Grantham without permission, and proceeded to France again at the first opportunity. (Adapted from the Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F., 27 June 1917, p. 195)

According to Luxford, Lance Corporal Bridson was buried in the Field on South side of October Drive, North of Messines.

    Attended Auckland Grammar School.

Attended Auckland University College (now the University of Auckland). AWMM
