    "Mr. E. R. Vickerman, of Station Terrace, Remuera, has received advice from the Minister of Defence that his son,Corporal Francis A. Vickerman, died at sea on September 5 from influenza.

    The late soldier was educated at Hawke's Bay and at the Waitaki High School, and later entered the employ of the Loan and Mercantile Agency. From there he went to Durban, South Africa, and returning some time later joined the staff of Dalgety and Co., of this city. He was later offered an appointment as manager of the New Zealand Portland Cement Co., and was with that firm up to the time of his leaving for the front. He joined the Fortieth Reinforcements, being attached to the machine-gun section."
