  • Thomas Broadbridge was the son of George Howard and Lilian Mary Broadbridge, of Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand.

His army record records his birth date as 5 April 1889. His birth certificate states 5 April 1891 as his birth date.

"15 September Thomas Broadbridge received gunshot wounds to his left thigh. This happened on the first day of the Flers-Courcelette Battle on the Somme (15-22 September) when his Battalion's task was to capture a sector of the Flers Trench System, then to take Flers village. After a period in France receiving medical attention, he was transferred to England, and arrived at No.1 New Zealand General Hospital on 27 September."(Church, p.87)

Thomas Broadbridge died of his wounds six weeks later. AWMM

  • Thomas Cyril Broadbridge was my Husband Leon's Great Uncle. Thomas was engaged before he went to war, to my Great Aunt Esther Yarrow of Wanganui. I have a photo given to me by her of Thomas in his army uniform. We have his birth certificate which shows his birth date 5 April 1891 (not 1892). Regards Varley Broadbridge
