  • Obituary
"Left after the first term in 1914 to study agriculture at Lincoln College, but was compelled to shorten his course there in order to assist on the home farm, war conditions making it impossible to get on without him. In this, his chosen vocation, he was most enthusiastic and practical, yet no matter how fatigued at the end of the day he never retired without spending an hour or more at the piano. He was a most zealous musician at school, keen and thorough, and appears to have given a vast amount of pleasure to many while on service in France. He died of wounds received at Gravenstafel, October 3rd, 1917." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School]) AWMM
